3D PRINTING

What is the maximum print size?

Our machines have a maximum build size of 225 x 145 x 150 mm. We can create larger models by gluing a number of printed parts together.

Can you print a multi-coloured part?

99% of our customers print in a single colour. However, our machines have 2 extruders so can print in 2 colours. Please contact us for more details on preparing files for dual colour printing.

What colours are available?

We stock a range of colours and can order in filament to your requirements. For ABS colours click here. For PLA colours click here.

What type of files can you print from?

We prefer files to be sent as STLs, but can print from STEP, IGES, Solidworks and Rhino files.

How do I send you my files for printing?

Please email them to info@3d-generator.co.uk

If they are very large you can either create a zipped folder with them in and email them, or alternatively you can use a free file transfer service like We Transfer.

How do you calculate the print cost?

Print costs are calculated based on the amount of filament that will be used and the time required to print the file. Additional processes like spray painting can be requested and the cost for these will be clearly itemised on the quotation.

How can I make sure my design is suitable for 3D printing?

Avoid very thin walls. The minimum wall thickness we can print is 0.8mm, but this will not be structurally strong. For self supporting structures the recommended wall thickness is 2mm+. It is also recommended that surface details like text have elements that are at least 0.8 mm in each dimension.

How quickly can I get my print?

Depending on the workload and machine availability, small prints are normally dispatched within 3 working days. If they are required more quickly, please ask and we will endeavour to help if possible. For larger multiple jobs a lead time can be negotiated.

How are my prints delivered to me?

We use Royal Mail Special Delivery service. This is an insured, trackable and signed for service. The delivery costs will be clearly stated on the quotation.

Can I pick my prints up from you?

Yes. We are based in Wells, Somerset and collection can be arranged by prior agreement.

What is the maximum sized object you can scan?

We can scan objects up to 700 x 700 x 700mm

What type of objects scan well?

Items that have a matte surface scan well.

What type of objects don’t scan well?

Transparent and shiny objects don’t scan well. As a solution these types of objects can be either spray painted or coated with powder to facilitate the scanning process.

Can you come to me to scan my object?

Yes, but this will incur additional costs if you are not local.

How can I get my object to you for scanning?

You can deliver your object to our office in Wells, Somerset. If you post it, we recommend that it is send it via a signed for and insured service.

Can you scan people or animals?

We are able to scan faces but not animals at this point.
